Flanders’ Modelling Festival 2023

11 March 2023 @ 09:30 17:00

Every year in March, IPMS Antwerp organises the Flanders’ Modelling Festival. This is the modelling event with the longest tradition in Belgium. At the festival you will find several club presentations, sales stands of new and second-hand modelling kits, accessories and books, and of course our contest.

The location of the Flanders’ Modelling Festival is Don Bosco Hoboken, Salesianenlaan 1, 2660 Hoboken (Antwerp). Entrance is free of charge.

Contest

The highlight of the Flanders’ Modelling Festival is of course the contest. Since 2019, the number of categories has been simplified with the intention of improving the overview for visitors and for judges. Join our competition! There is a considerable prize pool for the winners of the various trophies.

Participation in the contest costs €2 per model registered before 4 March 2023. Registration on the day costs €3 per model. Payment for participation in the contest must be done on the contest day. Every third registered model is free.

Rules
  • Flanders’ Modelling Festival is open to all modellers. To participate, you do not have to be a member of a modelling association.
  • There are three prizes to be won in each category: Winner (Gold), Highly Commended (Silver) and Commended (Bronze). These prizes can be awarded multiple times in each category, based on the number of points achieved. In addition, there are several special trophies to be won.
  • Anyone can enter the contest in all categories and with several models per category, but only the model with the highest score per category is eligible for a prize.
  • All models must be built mainly of plastic or resin, except for models in the Figurines and Ships categories.
  • Scratch models are all models which are largely self-built. They may be built with any material, but must consist of at least sixty percent plastic or resin.
  • An entered model is considered a diorama if the base plate is more than just a surface and extra attention has been paid to it by using figures, buildings, trees, extra models, ground equipment and so on.
  • Juniors (participants under 16) can place their models, regardless of theme or scale, in their own category or in another competition category. In the latter case, the model will not be judged as a ‘junior model’.
  • Models that previously participated in the Flanders’ Modelling Festival competition may not be entered again.
  • Each category is judged by two judges, who award points to the best five models. Judges are not allowed to participate in the contest in the category for which they are judging. The models are judged by experienced modellers.
  • Decisions of the contest committee cannot be contested. However, the committee and jury are open to questions and comments.
  • If in a category less than three models are registered, the models concerned will be added to the most similar category.
  • Judges have the right to move a model to another category if they feel that the model does not belong in the chosen category.
  • The models may only be removed from the contest tables after the prize-giving ceremony.
  • IPMS Antwerpen is not responsible for possible damage to models during the festival. Furthermore, the club cannot be held responsible for accidents.
